History:

Accensi, (or Accen for short), grew up on Earth in a small town in California. His father was a up and coming theoretical geneticist, his mother was a Starfleet officer.

When Accen was 15 there was an accident at his fathers lab and his father was killed. After the accident Accen's mother delved deep into her carrier and left for a deep space mission aboard the galaxy class 'USS Virgo'. It was only a few years later that Accen got the message that his mother had been killed when the Virgo had been destroyed during the battle at wolf 359. The First battle of the Borg.

Accen dedicated himself to learning. He absorbed as much information about both his fathers field of interest, and the Borg as he could, his entire being focused on the things that killed his parents. He graduated at the top of his class and then moved on into Starfleet research and development. However soon after he had managed to contract his first personal project he suddenly disappeared. And he didn't reappear again for six years.

When he did emerge back into the light of day however, there was something different. He was still driven, still passionate, and his friends said that if anything he was a little over protective of those few he actually counted as friends, but there was different.

In truth Accen had left to work on his project in secret, keeping his findings for himself. He had been working with genetic manipulation of the human body. He had succeeded. At least in some part.

While on his travels he had come in contact with a strange alien creature that had stung him and then vanished. Accen quickly made his way back to his private lab and discovered that the creature had injected him with a portion of it's own DNA and that it was now replicating within his body, literally creating tendrils of alien flesh inside his body. He correctly surmised that the creature was intent on taking over his body. Without considerable time with which to study the creature he was left with very few options, and so he injected himself with the experimental genetic re-sequencer he had been working on. The re-sequencer worked as he had hoped. It constantly updated his genetic structure with new and improved versions, keeping the symbiotic creature from gaining control. However the re-sequencer combined with the stress of having the symbiont living in his body was slowly causing his body to break down under the stress. The Re-Sequencer made his individual genes stronger, but as a whole his body simply couldn't keep up. He had one hope left. Another project he had been working on. A project that revolved around the use of nanites. Microscopic robots that could enter the body, replicate using the bodies natural waste, and repair the bodies cellular structure constantly.

The project had only been in it's initial phase however when Accen was forced to use it. He injected himself with the series 1 nanites and to his relief it worked. The Nanites were able to repair the constant damage that the battle between the symbiont and the genetic re-sequencer was causing to his body.

It wasn't until later that he discovered that the Nanites were still imperfect and would only be able to last a limited time before being destroyed themselves. Accen from that moment on spent all of his time working on improving the nanites. However his research was slow, and the type 1 nanites were too easily destroyed by the symbiont, lasting mere days before they were destroyed. Accen finally made a breakthrough with the type 2 nanites which were able to last in his body up to four days, but beyond that he hit a brick wall.

The Federation had some information about nanites, and Starfleet medical used nanites to treat injuries regularly, however those nanites lasted mere hours in his body. Starfleet simply wasn't far advanced enough in that field, but Accen knew of a race that was. The Borg.

It was obvious to him that the only nanites complex enough to do what he needed and constantly regenerate his body were in the hands, or rather the veins, of the Federations Arch nemesis. Of course actually tracking down Borg nanites wasn't going to be easy, but Accen wasn't the kind of person who simply gave up. He used every contact he had, every bit of money he could scrounge, he even sold new weapons specs to the Federation to help against the dominion, but it seemed impossible.

Until one day a researcher by the name of Edward Dgall, (the one man Accen had let in on the true reason for why Accen needed the nanites), contacted Accen with the news that he may be able to get him a specimen of Borg nanites.

Accen booked transport aboard an out of date cargo vessel, the SS Starfarer, and was on his way to meet with Dgall when the Starfarer was struck with disaster.
