History:
Chase was born in the summer of 2350, and like most boys since planes were first used in warfare he dreamed of being a fighter pilot. He worked hard during his youth, putting in the effort both in and outside the classroom to ensure his grades were good enough to enter Starfleet Academy, but by the time he actually made it to applying his ambitions had changed. When he entered the Academy he did so as an Engineering major, taking Security and Tactical as a minor. During his 3rd and 4th years he specilised in warp core mechanics and, inline with his minor, he also focused on shipboard Tactical systems. During his final year at the academy he married Samantha Carter, a Medical Student three years his senior. They had been dating for nearly two years.
He graduated age 21 in the summer of 2371 and was assigned to the USS Robin Hood. Primarily he was Alpha Shift Assistant Chief Warp Core Engineer, though for much of his first 6 months he spent most of his time working on the ships weapons arrays. Being a new ship they had a habit of overloading every time they were used.
The Dominion Threat had been growing for a number of years and by 2373 was now coming to a head with the Cardassian Union announcing its admittance into the Dominion. The Federation and Klingon Empire now faced the threat of thousands of Jem'Hadar ships within the Alpha Quadrant itself. Something had to give. And soon it did. When the Federation mined the Wormhole to prevent more Dominion reinforcements from arriving the war began.
The young Chase found himself transferred to the USS Saint, a Defiant Class vessel with the 7th Fleet. Due the limited personnel aboard the Defiant Class Chase found himself occupying the position of Chief Security Officer and Assistant Chief Engineer. The Saint was a good home to Chase, and he found himself fitting in well with the rest of the crew. In what was left of 2373 they notched up over 534 combat hours.
Early on in 2374 the Saint was one of just 14 out of 112 ships to escape the destruction of the 7th fleet in the Tyra System. The ship was reassigned to the 3rd Fleet and went on to serve in many critical campaigns.
In late 2374 the Saint was crippled by a surprise ambush while escorting a troop transport to the Deltan system. With most of the bridge crew being killed instantly Lieutenant Alexia Dalton, Chief Operations Officer, took command. Chase was sent to the bridge by the Chief Engineer to reroute the heavily damaged Tactical Systems. Once this was done he found himself manning the station. Infact, he found himself manning this station for the remainder of the war.
At the end of the war the Saint had 53 confirmed kills of capital ships, including a stunning 16 Jem'Hadar and Breen vessels in the final battle of the war. This total figure was beaten only by the Enterprise, the Defiant, the Valiant, the Rotunda, the Sovereign and seven other ships.
The crew of the Saint were all heavily decorated for valour and dedication to duty in the months following the wars end, but the war had taken its toll on many of them and the ship was ordered back to the Sol System for a complete refit. This was in part because the ship had suffered so much damage during the war, but also because it gave the crew a chance at extended shore leave.
Chase spent a month with his wife on Earth, whom he had hardly seen since the start of the war, before taking her to visit his parents who now lived on the colony world of Yew. Three months later when the Saint completed its refit Chase returned to Earth but he was never to set foot aboard her again. Instead he was ordered to join a special Taskforce, working off the USS Barack Obama. The Task Force was designed to bring War Criminals to justice. It was during this time he realised Law Enforcement was what he was born to do.
By 2378 Chase and his wife had divorced. It turned out she had been having an affair since before the war had begun. By this time he held the rank of full Lieutenant and was tipped to become the next XO of the Barack Obama but six months later Chase was honourably discharged from Starfleet, at his own request.
He didn't waste anytime however and as soon as he arrived on Earth he began his basic training with the United Federation Marshal Service. By early 2379 he was a full qualified Deputy Federation Marshal working out of the Bajoran Sector Field Office.
In 2383 he, along with Senior Deputy Marshal Ibram Gaunt, apprehended Tamux Yurr, the 2nd in charge of the Orion Syndicate. Yurr escaped while being transported to a penal planet aboard the USS Antorum four days after he was sentenced to life, charged with, among other things, 234 counts of murder. He has not been heard of since.
In 2385 his Federation Marshal issue shuttle was heavily damaged during an attack by former friends of the fugitive come witness he had recently taken custody of. The man, who had been a smugger pilot, had turned supergrass and was due to act as Federations Witness in the trial of his Gun Runner come Mercenary come Smuggler come Pirate boss (the gang had been terrorising the Deltan and nearby sectors for over a year), in return for a lighter sentence himself. Without him the trial would collapse though, so obviously those still loyal to his boss tried all they could to prevent him ever arriving. Thankfully Chase was able to escape and reach a Starbase. With no Starfleet ships due for four days however Chase was told to by his superiors to book passage for himself and fugitive come witness aboard the S.S Starfarer. The worst decision they could have made.
