Personality:

Kate is a dedicated officer with a bit of spunk, which usually doesn’t sit well with her superiors. She’s also an eye roller. She never expected to amount to much, career-wise, so looked elsewhere in her life to fill the empty void she had been feeling since her twin sister died.

History:

Born into a family of marines, and overprotective older brothers, Kate rebelled and joined Starfleet. Her childhood prior to that had been spent traveling from one marine facility to another as her father had taken on a teaching role just after she and her sister had been born. He had done so at the urging of his wife so he could spend more time with his family. What they hadn’t expected was that he would be more in demand than when he had been enlisted.

Kate was eleven when she lost her identical twin Kelsey. While crime is virtually unheard of on Earth, it still happens and Kelsey was an unfortunate victim. The girls had been typically close and Kate has never felt whole since her loss. As a result her older brothers became very protective of her. It wasn’t until they left the family home to become marines that Kate was even able to date without fear of her boyfriends mysteriously disappearing.

Despite her brothers best intentions Kate still managed to get into more scraps than the average lone child. There were numerous instances where she was lucky to have survived. She was quickly dubbed the ‘cockroach’ by one of her brothers and it is a nickname that has unfortunately stuck with her throughout her life.

One drunken night after turning 18, Kate announced to her brothers that only those with little intelligence joined the marine corp. Those with brains became Starfleet Officers. So while still somewhat inebriated they took her to the local Starfleet office and signed her up to become an officer. Knowing her brothers expected her to eat her words and withdraw her application she decided to buck the family tradition and became a rebel.

The Academy proved to be harder on Kate than she had expected. Science was definitely her weakest subject, along with engineering. Her instructor informed her that he would rather have a Klingon provide him with medical assistance, than her. Life was looking decidedly down for Kate until that is she threw another cadet across the room. Luckily for her the right people had witnessed that event and she was soon shepherded into the beginning of her career in Security and Tactical.

After graduating somewhere near the middle of her year Kate was assigned to USS Antigone as a security officer. There she diligently performed her duties quietly and pulled half shifts in tactical. She was promoted to Lieutenant JG two years later and remained on board for another four years.

In 2379 she transferred to the USS Valiant, an impressive Excalibur class vessel that was commanded by then Captain Ophelia Cashell. It soon became apparent to Kate that the Captain had a preference for women as the crew ratio was unusually skewed. Within months of arriving Kate was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and to the position of Assistant Tactical Officer. By 2383 she was the Chief Tactical Officer and promoted to Lieutenant Commander. Early 2385 she accepted the secondary role of Second Officer.

Kate is currently on leave and en route with wedding dress in tow, to her own wedding.
